Working Party & cream tea

Before the bees are moved to the new apiary we need to do some more preparation; hence the need for another working party at Dunsland House on Sunday 10 April.

The work can be split into four sections so we need as many people as possible to work in teams. There will be jobs for all who turn up no matter what their abilities or skills. Please bring some suitable protective gear (sturdy footwear and work gloves), and bring path clearing shovels and a wheelbarrow if possible.

Afterwards there will be a cream tea for all - £1 for members and £2 for visitors.

Come along and enjoy the lovely surroundings of Dunsland House, build up an appetite and then satisfy it with a delicious cream tea.

Working Party at new apiary

This will be the second working party at the new branch apiary at Dunsland House.

Please meet at the car park at 1.00 pm. There will be jobs for all who turn up no matter what their abilities or skills.

Apologies for the late notice but Christopher Smith, who is organising the work at Dunsland thinks that the ground conditions will be ideal at the weekend and so we need to take advantage of them.

We have made a great start on the work that needs to be done before the site can be used as an apiary but if the bees are to be moved in during April there is still a lot to be done. Please come along on Saturday if you are able to.

'My week at the National Bee Unit'

Anne Binns, our Education Officer, will be giving us an illustrated talk about the week she spent last summer at the National Bee Unit, near York.

The week was designed as an introduction to the National Diploma in Beekeeping and covered a wide range of topics from disease recognition to artificial insemination.

It should be an interesting and informative evening.
