Advantages of membership:

  • help and advice from experienced beekeepers

  • organised courses for new beekeepers, including an opportunity to examine bees at the branch apiary

  • interesting talks throughout the winter from a wide range of local and regional beekeeping experts

  • bee disease insurance to give recompense for any colonies that have to be destroyed because of notifiable diseases. This is only for Registered and Junior members

  • public liability insurance up to a limit of £5 million in any one year and any one incident against accidents arising from their beekeeping activities. There is an excess of £500 for any claims that relate to property

  • hire of some beekeeping equipment

  • opportunity to sell honey on the branch stand at various shows during the year

Full registered member

Partner member

£17.00

For those who live at the same address as a full registered member. Includes Public Liability Insurance but Partner members pay a different rate for BDI and do not receive the magazines.

Junior member

£17.00

For individuals under the age of 18. Includes all the benefits of Registered membership, except eligibility for standing for a branch officer or committee. Also Juniors pay a different rate for BDI.

Associate member

£14.00

for those individuals who do not keep bees in their own right in the County of Devon, but who wish to participate in DBKA activities, belong to a Branch, and receive Beekeeping Magazine, or are already a BBKA member with another Area Association. Associate members will not be registered as beekeepers with the BBKA and will not receive 'BBKA News' or 'Beekeeping'.

Social member

£4.50

for those individuals who do not keep bees in their own right in the County of Devon, who are generally interested in the craft of beekeeping, and wish to participate in DBKA activities primarily at Branch level.

Note: The full membership includes insurance provided by Bee Diseases Insurance (BDI) for up to 3 hives. Extra premiums are required for more than 3 hives (see membership form for details).

How to join

The membership year runs from January to December and we normally start to take subscriptions from both new and existing members in November.

New members

Electronically
